Shelter Forest International has overcome one of the most significant issues facing the plywood industry: how to make top quality sheets without felling old growth forests.

Traditional high quality plywood relies on old trees (150–300 years old) to peel off veneers that are strong and smooth. Younger trees just don’t have the fiber structure to make great peels. But through processes and engineering that SFI has developed, they can take sustainably planted trees, harvest, and create plywood that rivals any other plywood on the planet, without deforesting our ancient woodlands.
